Dr. Sophia Chadda has lived in Bernards Township for 20 years and has owned a periodontal and dental implant practice  ( in town for more than 16 years. A board-certified periodontist, she is a graduate of Barnard College, Columbia University and SUNY Buffalo Dental School. She completed her periodontal residency at Rutgers Dental School (formerly UMDNJ), and
conducted research n the link between cardiovascular disease and dental disease.

Chadda is also a former assistant professor of periodontics at Rutgers Dental School and has held leadership positions in professional organizations and societies. She is the past president of the Tri-County Dental Society of NJ and the past treasurer of the New Jersey Society of Periodontists. She was awarded “Top Dentist” by New Jersey monthly magazine in 2014 and 2015. Chadda is a member of the American Dental Association,  New Jersey Dental Association, the American Academy of Periodontology, the Tri-County Dental Society, and the New Jersey Society of Periodontists.

In 2005, Chadda served on the Bernards Township Board of Health and was involved with board decisions involving township residents’ access to services including low-cost mammograms, health screenings, and vital statistics. 

Chadda is a participant in Leadership Somerset, a county program that supports leaders dedicated to their local communities. She is also on the board of trustees of the nonprofit International Foundation for Progress, which runs a free school and health clinic for 175 children in Pakistan and aims to provide education and healthcare to other impoverished children in the developing world. She volunteers at the local public and private schools her children attend and is a trustee of the Islamic Society of Basking Ridge.

Chadda is the mother of three children, all raised in Bernards Township and educated in the local public and private schools. As a Democratic candidate for Bernards Township Committee, Chadda draws on her STEM background to bring a fact- and evidence-based, collaborative approach to help address and resolve local issues facing our community. Chadda‘s candidacy also offers township residents a unique opportunity to ensure greater inclusion of diverse points of view and will bring to bear new thinking in the governance of our township.
