Field of Honor 2019

In honor of Veterans’ Day, Bernards Township holds a Field of Honor ceremony. From now until Veterans’ Day, American flags are displayed in front of the Municipal Building as a show of respect and honor to the veterans who have served our great country. Today, I was happy to join the crowd of veterans, Girl Scouts, residents, and elected officials including Congressman Tom Malinowski, Sara Sooy, Somerset County Freeholder, and Bernards Township Committeewoman Joan Bannan Harris at this beautiful ceremony. Thank you to all of the veterans who so selflessly serve our great nation.

Liberty Corner Fire Company Spaghetti Dinner

I had a great time tonight at the Liberty Corner Fire Company Fall Spaghetti Dinner. We are so lucky to have such brave, dedicated women and men who volunteer to keep us safe. The LCFC raise the majority of their funding through an annual fund drive, their holiday gift delivery, and fundraising events such as this. They use these funds to provide new equipment and training in order to protect the community. Thank you, LCFC!

Lord Stirling 1770's Festival

On the first Sunday of October every year, Lord Stirling Park celebrates the Lord Stirling 1770s Festival. Colonial craftspeople dress in 1770s attire and provide a glimpse into 18th Century life and New Jersey’s important role in the American Revolution. The Lord Stirling Estate is over 250 years old and an important asset to Bernards Township and its rich history. I was happy to spend part of my day with such lovely people at this great event. #CrossroadsOfTheRevolution #AmericanHistory #Chadda2019

Knock Out Opioid Abuse Day

I met with volunteers from Community In Crisis, a local coalition that focuses on substance abuse prevention and education while reducing the stigma of addiction and working to prevent overdose deaths. Congressman Tom Malinowski was also there to show his support. I commend the efforts of the local leaders, stakeholders, faith-based organizations, and committed volunteers who lovingly offer important resources to people and their families who have been affected by the opioid crisis. I am proud to have participated in spreading their message over the weekend to local residents! #StampOutStigma #KnockOutOpioidAbuse #Chadda2019

Dandiya 2019

I feel truly privileged to have participated in BRIC - Basking Ridge Indian Community’s annual Dandiya celebration. Dandiya Raas is a traditional folk dance that demonstrates the slaughter of the demon Mahishasur by goddess Durga. Choreographed dances, music, and beautiful, elaborate dresses and kedias are an essential to the celebration. Thank you to the warm, welcoming people of BRIC for a spectacular time! You are truly an asset to our community. #dandiya #diversity #multicultural #immigrantsmakeamericagreat #chadda2019

Leadership Somerset Recycling

On a tour of the County Recycling Center, I learned more about the recycling process and new totes — one for cardboard and another for glasses and cans — that every county resident is scheduled to receive. According to the EPA, recycling: • Reduces the amount of waste sent to landfills and incinerators • Conserves natural resources such as timber, water and minerals • Increases economic security by tapping a domestic source of materials • Prevents pollution by reducing the need to collect new raw materials • Saves energy • Supports American manufacturing and conserves valuable resources • Helps create jobs in the recycling and manufacturing industries in the United States Recycling more effectively is incredibly important, and reducing our waste is critical to improving our environmental sustainability.

Leadership Somerset Sustainability

As a leader, I know that an important part of leadership is continuing to learn about and take ownership of the issues that are important to society. On Wednesday, I continued my participation in the Somerset County Leadership Summit. Among the workshops was a presentation by Michael Catania, Executive Director of Duke Farms, about local efforts to combat climate change, highlighting long-term collaborative research by Duke Farms and Rutgers University. New Jersey is disproportionately affected by climate change — in the future, we can expect more rain, flooding, and droughts. Recent studies suggest that using natural climate solutions can provide a third of what we need to do in order to save our planet. We need to reduce emissions and work with nature to pull carbon out of the atmosphere. Duke Farms is taking the lead in using innovative ideas and using research from Rutgers to implement new farming methods and sustainability practices in order to further this fight. Sustainability — and taking steps toward true environmental stewardship — is a highlight of my campaign platform. In order to ensure biodiversity, conserve our forests, oceans, and wildlife, and halt the forces that are damaging nature, we need to take immediate action. We need to take personal responsibility. As a leader, I hope to join you in this fight. #sustainability #leadership #chadda2019

EEC Reusable Bags

I attended the Bernards Township Committee meeting, where local student Anjali Dahiya was recognized as the 2019 Reusable Bag Design Challenge Winner and honored with a resolution from the Township Committee. Many residents are showing their support for reducing plastic waste by switching to reusable bags. As many of you know, this issue is one I support wholeheartedly, and I know we can significantly reduce the use of single-use bags and plastics in our township!! The reuasalbe bags are free to Township residents at Town Hall while supplies last. Thank you to the EEC! Congratulations, Anjali!

Leadership Somerset Safety

As a leader, I vow to work hard to help keep Bernards Township safe. Today, I attended Leadership Somerset. While there, I met with the Honorable Yolanda Ciccone, Assignment Judge, State of NJ Superior Court. Today’s program included presentations from the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office. Recently, they launched the STOP!T app for anonymous crime reporting on mobile devices. The SCPO also announced that during an emergency, an individual can now send a text to 911. I also learned about child abduction protocols and the importance of parents remaining vigilant in knowing what phone apps their children are using. Several popular apps, including SnapChat, WhatsApp, and the wildly popular TikTok, can be used to lure kids into sextortion, in which lurkers gain access and threaten to distribute private and sensitive material unless the user meets their demands. Finally, we toured the County Jail, the Somerset County Operations Center, and the Emergency Operations Center. Keeping Bernards Township a safe place to live is among my priorities as a Township Committee candidate. By working alongside the Bernards Township Police Department and the Somerset County Sheriff’s Department, I will ensure that we will address and work to eradicate any concerns our citizens have about crime.

We will never forget.
